I remember waiting for some deli meat at a local Safeway about 9 ~ 10 years ago behind this fellow who ordered a sandwich and asked not to have avocado. Now I absolutely love avocado, so I was curious, and asked the fellow about the request for skipping the avocado. His response was that avocado has "so much fat" -- which was stunning to someone who understands the actual science. I didn't trip on the dude, but I do recall saying something like, "I hear ya." If I had known him personally I might have provided some knowledge, but I've learned not to say anything to people I don't know when it comes to food choices and dietary belief systems.

It's kind of like saying to Christian's that their Jesus probably never really existed, and that their Bible is actually a revision a thousand times over of what is also in the Hebrew Torah and the Muslim Koran -- with some other messianic chapters written by early wanderers speaking of the one God to poor people all across the Mediterranean world.
